If you want dark flaming I suggest using a handheld bernzomatic propane or map gas torch from Lowes or Home Despot or whatever hardware store you prefer. It gives a more concentrated flame. Higher heat and easier to control than the Harbor Freight weed burner. Get the flame spreader if you can find it, if not no biggie. Move quickly.
